Getting to Ksamil has become much easier in 2026, with more frequent connections and improved infrastructure. Whether you are flying into Tirana or coming from the nearby Greek island of Corfu, here is exactly how to reach the “Ionian Pearl.”
Flying into Corfu International Airport (CFU) is still the quickest way to reach Ksamil. Since the airport is just across the water, you can often be on a beach in Ksamil within two hours of landing.
Step 1: Take a 10-minute taxi from Corfu Airport to the Port of Corfu.
Step 2: Take the high-speed ferry (Hydrofoil) to Saranda. The crossing takes only 30–35 minutes. Tickets cost around €25–€30 during the high season.
Step 3: Once you arrive at the Port of Saranda, clear passport control and take a 15-minute taxi or a 25-minute bus to Ksamil.
Tirana International Airport (TIA) is the main gateway for most long-haul travelers. From Tirana, you have several options:
By Rental Car: The drive takes about 4.5 to 5 hours. The fastest route is the inland highway via Tepelena and the new Kardhiq tunnel. If you have extra time, the coastal road via Llogara Pass is one of the most beautiful drives in Europe.
By Private Transfer: A direct taxi from Tirana Airport to Ksamil costs approximately €180–€220. It is the most comfortable option if you are traveling in a group.
By Bus: You must first take the airport shuttle to the Regional Bus Terminal (South). From there, take a bus to Saranda (tickets are about €17). Buses depart roughly every hour starting at 5:30 AM. From Saranda, switch to the local Ksamil bus.
As of summer 2026, Vlora International Airport (VIA) has begun its first commercial operations.
Benefits: This airport is much closer to the south than Tirana.
Travel Time: From Vlora Airport, the drive to Ksamil is reduced to approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, making it a fantastic alternative for reaching the Riviera quickly.
Once you are in Saranda, getting to Ksamil is very simple:
The Public Bus: The bus departs every 30–60 minutes from the center of Saranda (near the Port and the Friendship Park).
Price: 150 ALL (approx. €1.50).
Pro Tip: Look for the bus destination sign that says “Butrint,” as Ksamil is the main stop on that route.
Taxi: A taxi from Saranda to Ksamil costs between €13 and €20 depending on the time of day and traffic.
Cash is King: While many hotels and larger restaurants in Ksamil take cards, the local buses and small taxis are cash only. Keep some Albanian Lek (ALL) or small Euro notes handy.
Border Controls: If you come via Corfu, remember you are crossing an international border. Have your passport ready for the ferry terminal in both Greece and Albania.
Traffic Warning: During July and August, the narrow road between Saranda and Ksamil can get very busy. A 15-minute trip can easily turn into 45 minutes, so plan accordingly if you have a ferry to catch!
