Deciding where to stay in Ksamil matters more than in most beach destinations. The village is compact, but the difference between a room two minutes from the sand and one up on the main road is the difference between walking home for lunch and driving everywhere.
This guide breaks down the areas, the types of accommodation, and what to check before you pay.
Everything within walking distance: beaches, restaurants, bars, minimarkets and the taxi boats to the islands. This is the best base if you are not renting a car, and the obvious choice for a short stay. The trade-off is noise, especially in August, and difficult parking.
Hotels directly on the water, often with their own sunbeds included or discounted. The most convenient and the most expensive option, and the first to sell out for July and August.
A short walk or a two-minute drive from the sea. Prices drop noticeably, rooms are often newer and larger, and many places have views over the islands. Best if you have a car.
Guesthouses and small hotels between Ksamil and Sarandë, or toward Butrint. Quiet, good value, and practical if you plan to explore the south rather than stay on one beach. Requires transport.
The full list of options is on our where to stay in Ksamil page.
For July and August, book two to three months ahead for the best combination of location and price. For June and September, a few weeks is usually enough. In May and October, you can often arrive and negotiate on the spot, and prices are dramatically lower.
Rates swing more by season than by quality. The same room can cost a modest amount in May and several times that in the first two weeks of August. Booking early is the single most effective way to control the cost of a Ksamil trip, more than any other decision you make.
Ksamil gives you the famous beaches and islands on your doorstep, a quieter village atmosphere and better swimming.
Sarandë gives you a proper promenade, more restaurants and bars, the ferry port for Corfu connections and better bus links.
Many travellers split the trip: a few nights in Ksamil for the beaches, a night or two in Sarandë for the nightlife and transport.
The centre if you are without a car and want to walk everywhere. Outside if you have a car and want more space for the money.
Some beachfront hotels do, or offer a discount at a partner beach. Always ask before booking, since it changes the daily cost.
Yes. Shallow water, short distances and plenty of apartments with kitchens make it straightforward with children.
Sometimes, but at the worst prices of the year and rarely in the best locations. Book ahead.
