Choosing the best beaches in Ksamil is harder than it sounds. The village is small, but the coastline around it hides everything from packed sunbed strips to bays you can only reach by boat. Some are perfect for families, others are better for photos, and a few are simply not worth the drive in August.
Here are ten spots that consistently deliver, with honest notes on crowds, access and cost.
The long central strip in front of the village. Shallow, sandy and safe for children, with restaurants, showers and rentals right behind you. It is also the busiest beach in Ksamil, so arrive before 10:00 in high season or accept a back row of sunbeds.
The small islands opposite the village are the postcard image of the Albanian Riviera. A taxi boat takes a few minutes and costs only a few euros return; a full 5 islands tour gets you to the quieter ones. Bring water and snacks, since facilities are minimal.
North of Ksamil toward Sarandë, named after water so clear it reflects the sky. Rocky in places, spectacular for snorkelling, and reachable by car or as part of the north seven destinations boat tour.
A compact pebble-and-sand cove tucked between cliffs, popular for its calm water and relaxed atmosphere. Parking is limited, so it rewards early arrivals.
Quieter than the village beaches, with a small monastery nearby that gives the beach its name. A good choice when the centre of Ksamil feels overwhelming.
The famous overwater hammock nets and beach-club aesthetic. Beautiful and heavily photographed, but premium spots need booking and cost noticeably more than the surrounding beaches. Read our full Pema e Thatë guide before you go.
A long, wild bay north of Sarandë with no road access worth attempting in a normal car. Reach it by boat instead, for example on the Krorëz cruise, and you get one of the emptiest beaches in the region.
Deep turquoise water surrounded by green hills. Boat access only for most visitors, and usually paired with Krorëz on full-day trips.
South of the village, a series of small coves with fewer sunbeds and a calmer crowd. Ideal for couples and anyone who prefers reading to loud music.
The most remote option on this list, and the reward for taking a full-day trip such as the Tongo Island tour with BBQ lunch. Uninhabited, quiet, and about as far from the crowds as you can get while staying in Albania.
Most beaches in Ksamil operate on a sunbed-and-umbrella model run by the adjacent bar or restaurant. Expect a set of two loungers and an umbrella to cost anywhere from a modest daily rate on quiet beaches to a premium price in front of the busiest clubs, with front-row positions costing the most.
Free public space exists, but it shrinks in July and August. Bring a towel and arrive early if you would rather not pay. Always agree the price before you sit down, a point we cover in our guide to common tourist traps in Ksamil.
The travellers who enjoy Ksamil most tend to follow the same simple structure. Start early on a village beach while the sand is still cool and the water is completely still. Move to a boat or a taxi boat around late morning, when the shoreline starts to fill and the islands become the better option. Take a long lunch in the shade during the hottest hours, then return to the water in the late afternoon when the light softens and half the day-trippers have already left.
Two beaches a day is plenty. Trying to tick off five means spending your holiday looking for parking rather than swimming. If you only have one full day, spend the morning on the islands and the evening at a beach bar on the main strip.
Ksamil Main Beach, because the water stays shallow for a long stretch and everything you need is within walking distance.
There is free public space on most beaches, but the majority of the shoreline is covered with paid sunbeds in summer.
Some are close enough for strong swimmers, but boat traffic makes it risky. A taxi boat is cheap and far safer.
